The collection chamber fills, and a full chamber costs you suction — the makers in this category do not publish how much it holds, and neither do we, because we have not measured it. Treat it the way you treat a vacuum: when the pull feels weaker, twist the chamber off and tip it out. A heavily pilled coat will need it more than once.
And this is the tool for control, not for raw power. True & Tidy publishes twelve blades across two motors against our six. We publish no rpm figure at all, because we have not measured ours and we are not going to print a number we did not take. What we do have is three speeds and a guard, which is the pair nobody else on the table puts together.

Does it thin out the cloth after repeated use?
It removes what has already come loose. A pill is fibre that has worked its way out of the weave and tangled into a ball on the surface — cutting the ball off takes the knot, not the structure underneath. What does damage a garment is a blade meeting live thread, which is what the guard exists to prevent. On anything fine, run the lowest speed and keep the guard flat rather than pressing it in.
Will it damage cashmere or a delicate knit?
This is the case to be careful with. Use the lowest speed, hold the guard flat against the surface instead of pushing into it, and work in short passes. If the garment is one you would genuinely hate to lose, try an inside seam or a hem first. A shaver with a single fixed speed takes that choice away from you; this one does not.
How is this different from a cheaper one?
Two things you can check on any product page before you pay: whether the speed adjusts on the device, and whether there is a guard between the blade and the fabric. Plenty of shavers have one. On our comparison table, none of the four competitors has both — the ones with interchangeable screens run at a single speed, and the one with three speeds has a single opening for every fabric.
How often do I have to empty it?
Whenever the pull feels weaker, and on a badly pilled coat that can be more than once. A full chamber costs suction — Conair says as much in its own manual, that an overfilled collector can slow or stop the unit. Nobody in this category publishes the capacity, ourselves included, so we would rather teach the habit than sell you a number.
Is it any good on furniture and blankets?
Yes, and it is where the higher speeds earn their place. Couch arms, fleece throws, blankets and coat sleeves all pill the same way a sweater does. Go up a speed on heavy upholstery, and expect to empty the chamber more often than you would on a single jumper.
What is the motor speed?
We do not publish one. Philips publishes 8,800 rpm and Steamery publishes 8,000 for their own devices; we have not measured ours, and printing a supplier figure as though we had taken it would be dishonest. What we publish is what we can stand behind: three speeds, six blades, and a guard.
What if I do not like it?
Send it back within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the product price. On a change of mind the return postage is yours. This is a returns window, not a multi-year defect warranty — Philips publishes two years on its shaver and Steamery one, and we would rather you knew that from us than found it out later.
